The skills combine will be used to identify young women who possess exceptional athletic skills, aptitude and drive necessary to compete for positions on Canada's National teams. Coach John Tait and NSWT staff will be on hand to meet and assess young women who have the interest and the athletic potential for inclusion in National team programs.
The combine comprises a series of physical tests, sprints and drills designed to measure and assess the participants‚ general athletic abilities. BC rep and elite-level rugby players are strongly encouraged to attend, although prior rugby experience is not necessary. Rugby Canada wishes to meet and assess other elite-level crossover athletes from sports such as basketball, track, hockey, soccer and gymnastics.
With women's rugby growing rapidly around the world, Rugby Canada through its partnership with Own the Podium, has embarked upon a multi-year investment strategy designed to maintain its position amongst the top teams in the world. By indentifying and recruiting the best young athletes in Canada, the NSWT is looking to develop the next generation of world-class Canadian rugby players. Prospects emerging from the skills combine will be considered strong candidates for inclusion in the women‚s U20 and senior 15s and 7s programs, and be well positioned to participate in future events such as the IRB 7s Series, the World Cup, and the Olympics.
Participation in the skills combine is free, but attendees must preregister by emailing Brian Nutt at email@example.com.
